HOUSE PASSES GOP BILL TO DEPORT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WHO ASSAULT POLICE

The GOP-led House has approved a controversial measure mandating the deportation of illegal immigrants who assault law enforcement officers, sparking fierce debate in Washington. The Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act, introduced by Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-N.J.), passed 265–148, with 54 Democrats joining

Republicans in support. The bill requires federal authorities to detain such offenders until deportation and adds a new class of inadmissibility for migrants accused of assaulting police. Van Drew stated, “There is no reason that an illegal alien who attacks our law enforcement should remain in our country.” GOP leaders hailed the move as a victory for law and order, while Democrats condemned it as politically driven and overly broad.

At the same time, new CNN polling reveals Democrats losing ground on economic trust. Data analyst Harry Enten expressed shock as Republicans held an 8- to 12-point advantage in recent surveys, including CNN and Reuters/Ipsos polls. Despite concerns over tariffs and stock market volatility, voters continue to see the GOP as better on the

economy. Enten summarized the findings bluntly: “How is that possible, Democrats? After all the fear, after all the headlines—Republicans still dominate the economy issue.” Analysts say this economic perception, coupled with strong middle-class support, keeps Republicans competitive heading into 2026.
