A true story

While babysitting for my sister, I heard the baby monitor abruptly turn on at 3 a.m. I checked, but the infant was soundly asleep. Then a voice whispered into the speaker, “He’s not okay.” Panic set in when I called my sister. Her reaction caused my blood to run cold.

“Get my son and flee to the car! “Lock the doors and call 911,” she yelled. She stated that she had also been hearing unusual noises through the monitor, which had been troubling her for days. As we spoke, I noticed a shadow moving outside my nephew’s bedroom window. My breath caught as I discovered the window was open, which we always kept closed.

I did not waste another second. I grabbed my nephew and bolted for the car. The cops arrived and scoured the area, but discovered nothing. They later informed us that the baby monitor model we had was known to pick up “strange sounds,” with other identical complaints made.
We replaced the monitor and the noises stopped. But I know exactly what I saw. That shadow. That was an open window. The memory still sends chills down my spine.
